Soft Goods Designer

As a Soft Goods Designer, you join the early team and work directly with the founders and senior leadership. The soft side of the product is yours, from the first samples to production parts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop garments for robots. Balance durability, abrasion resistance, and serviceability against approachability, comfort, and material warmth.

• Work hands-on with materials. Knit structures, woven textiles, bonded constructions, technical laminates. Prototype on full-scale bucks. Iterate physically and digitally.

• Design the CMF strategy across the soft side of the product. Palettes, finishes, material pairings. Maintain a working library of qualified materials and suppliers.

• Engineer for manufacture. Work with knitting houses, cut-and-sew partners, and material suppliers to take prototypes through sample rounds, DFM, and into production.

• Collaborate across disciplines. Mechanical engineers on hard-soft interfaces. Industrial designers on form and surface.

Experience: 4+ years of experience in soft goods, textile, or apparel design.

Core Skills:

• Soft Goods Design: Deep expertise designing technical and performance apparel, footwear, or outerwear, or relevant experience in automotive or furniture soft trim (seating, upholstery, cut-and-sew) at production scale.

• Digital Tools: Experience with digital garment and pattern development tools.

• Design for Assembly: Experience integrating hard-soft attachment systems where textiles interface with rigid parts (e.g., snaps, overmolding, bonded fasteners).

• Also useful: Garment and pattern development in CLO 3D. Industrial knit programming, Shima Seiki or Stoll.
